Day Real Estate and Fire Theft frontman Jeremy Enigk
is reported to be in a Seattle studio co-producing
and recording his second solo album, the follow-up to 1996's
Return of the Frog Queen. With
a title yet to be announced, Enigk is planning to
release his new record this summer on his own imprint,
Lewis Hollow Records, which will be distributed by Reincarnate Records
through Sony BMG. Enigk also plans to tour Europe in July and then the U.S. beginning in August.
Enigk's
representatives state that he "began writing for the album
in early 2005, although some songs had their genesis as early as the
mid-90s. Along with co-producer Josh Myers, he started recording late last
year and anticipates being finished by the end of this month. While the
final track listing has yet to be determined, some dozen songs have been
recorded with working titles such as 'World Waits,' 'Canons,' 'River to Sea,'
'All Been Said,' and 'Freeway,' and Enigk hints that the overall sound of the
new album will be similar to, but not quite as explosive, as the lush
orchestral sounds of Frog Queen."
Musicians
on the album include Josh Myers on keyboards, Nick Macri on bass, and
Mark Swanson, Kannah Tupper, Matt Johnson, Casey Foubert, and James McAlister
on drums. Enigk himself is playing guitar, keyboards, and bass,
and he is also using a string section on a number of
tracks. While the Fire Theft is
currently on hold so Enigk can concentrate on his solo album, the trio still
considers themselves a band. |
